Skull Tattoos have first become widespread at pirates. The invented the Skull & Crossbones symbol as a logo. It was used to their big flags and sails, then appeared on their bodies.

Skeletal and skull tattoos represent Death without doubt. But, as we know, not everyone views death as a necessarily bad and evil thing. Some view it as redemption, while some associate grave images to it.

So, for someone, skull tattoos symbolize happiness: we have to enjoy life until the grim reaper comes
